mesothelioma

In mesothelioma, histopathology shows a diverse range of patterns: epithelioid, sarcomatous, and biphasic (mixed). The majority of cases show a mixed pattern of epithelioid and spindled cells. In each of these subtypes, the cells show marked nuclear atypia and invasion into surrounding structures. Metastasis to the skin usually shows a dermal tumor, often with overlying ulceration (figure 1). Higher power examination shows malignant cells with a variety of cell shapes ranging from tubulopapillary, spindled, clear cell, and small cell types. The example illustrated here is predominantly sarcomatous with a preponderance of spindled cells. There are zones of necrosis.

From my personal experience with asbestosis I can give you this guide to symptoms. Being a member of quite a few Asbestos World groups and Communities I consider my knowledge to be quite sound.

Depending firstly on how much exposure a person has had ,determines the length of time it takes for symptoms to begin to appear.

For some it may be as long as 40 to 50 years for others it can be as quickly as 6 to 10 years.

What to look for;

•breathlessness

•clubbing of the fingernails

•weight loss

•fatigue

•sleeplessness

•coughing -frequently early morning and mid evening.Worsening in cooler months , and bringing up small amounts of thick , sticky mucous.

•pain in chest - similair too heartburn , or you may think this is a heart attack.

You may get pains in back near lung regions, could be possible plueral plaques due to asbestos exposure.

As time goes on you will find that all of these symptoms continuously worsen.

Then you will also see urinary issues arise, blood pressure issues , memory and cognitive loss due to lack of oxygen.

Worsening of cough, mucuous will change colour and this is indicator of chest infections and pnuemonia. Heart conditions. Eating ceases as the throat and mouth are always too dry for swallowing , or like my Dad they survive on grapes, soup and food that can manage to slide down. Then when they can’t manage that it comes to a stomach tube.

If you know someone with asbestosis you will soon be able to recognise others with the same illness by looking at the colour of their faces.

Sufferer’s have a grey pallour , sunken eyes with red or pale purple markings under eyes , their cheeks become very sunken , and all of the sufferer’s I have met have the same haunted look in their eyes.

Best option if you read this and are young protect yourself and your family and friends.Tell people , it is about education. NO-ONE WANTS TO DIE THIS WAY. I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANYONE DIE THIS WAY.

symptoms of Mesothelioma

The initial symptoms of pleural symptoms usually include breathing difficulty and chest, rib and back pain. This could be caused by tumors growing around the lung or by pleural effusion, which is a buildup of fluid around the lung.

Mesothelioma usually does not cause symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage and begun to spread from its original site. The most common treatment for mesothelioma is chemotherapy. Immunotherapy is being tested for the disease as well.

If the cancer has not spread too far and the patient is in good health, doctors may recommend combining aggressive tumor-removing surgery with chemotherapy and other treatments. This type of multimodal treatment plan is associated with the longest survival times. However, most mesothelioma patients do not qualify for aggressive surgery.

Mesothelioma is a rare disease, so it is important to seek care from a doctor who specializes in it.

What are some of the treatment options available for mesothelioma?

This depends on the type of mesothelioma. First of all lung or abdomen? Is it poly cystic mesothelioma or another variant?

Mesothelioma is difficult to treat and for many people the outlook doesn't look great. But every patient is an individual and every case is slightly different.

Most patients are offered chemo but I think that in some cases it is palliative care rather than a cure.

My particular case is difficult to treat but fortunately we have time on our side. I am not having any treatment at all and my mesothelioma is just been monitored. But I have a rare strain.
