•Side effects are the unwanted or undesirable effects while aiming for an objective in the treatment course.

In physiotherapy its always better to term as limitations of treatment rather than side effects. Much more precise we can describe it as pains of the treatment. I am not mentioning about the physical pain but the pain in the broader terms.

Physical Pain: One pain of the physiotherapy treatment is definitely the physical pain. During most of the physiotherapy treatment, the patient may have to tolerate pain. But remember this pain is for a short while and physiotherapy is the best health care means which can deal with most of the pain, whether its chronic or acute. And as we all say, ‘No PAIN No GAIN’.

Long duration and more frequency: Most of the physiotherapy treatment takes so much time and so many days. The reason to this is physiotherapy depends upon the principles of physics and through this it enables the body to heal by itself and so it takes time. And again, we say, ‘The fruit which takes long time to ripe is much sweeter’.

Injuries during treatment: There can be injuries to the normal tissues during the treatment while trying to mobilize the dead or dysfunctional tissues. e.g.: During mobilizations of joints and soft tissues. But so much research is happening and in near future itself we can overcome this, I hope. And we have to say it again ‘Collateral damage’.

These are the major things in my observations and hope nothing much more.
